Mission

  • To encourage dialog between entrepreneurs and the proverbial dark side. For many entrepreneurs, the venture world is needlessly opaque and confusing. Venture principles, processes and norms are relatively straight forward, but not commonly understood. With a Windy City twist, this blog will try to shed light on the world "behind the curtain".

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Death to Barney:

Comments

Sometimes the Barney problem goes deeper than straight talk and an accurate account of the sales funnel:

Did we hire a chief executive who operates an enterprise that can cascade client requirements through the organization?

Did we hire her or him to create a talent pool that solves things for our clients or make a show of things for our executive?

Did we hire her or him to hire executives whose thinking derives from outside agencies who create presentations and reports?

Did we hire for the production of these reports and the reward for creation of new ones, therefore create "Barney Meetings"?

Did we hire to create fear of authority or bosses and increase liabilities of fear and fright rather than deploy talent as an asset?

Did we hire intelligence that spreads entepreneurial candor in the organization or that turns talent into client facing Barney's?

Did we hire executives that make our people ingenious about selling survival rather than intelligent about serving our clients?

Did we hire for the purposes of creating 21st Century requisite client or a 20th Century requisite organization?

Not directly related to the real subject, but if you haven't seen it, you really need to watch the movie "Death to Smoochy". I promise it really helps with Barney-related anger...

Another fine Robin Williams dark comedy...:-)
